"angpresentation": "The Blue Hour begins with a simple question: how does street lighting affect colour perception in nocturnal pollinators? The project focuses on Deilephila elpenor, a hawk moth whose vision relies on photoreceptors sensitive to green, blue and ultraviolet, adapted to twilight conditions. Together with researchers, I developed a physical model that calculates the response of these three channels under natural light and LED lighting. The installation takes the form of a suspended garden of living plants, illuminated by custom-built spectral LED systems. By alternating between light that simulates twilight and urban LED light, it makes the model’s prediction perceptible: strong colour contrasts between flowers and foliage can collapse, transforming the scene into an almost monochrome environment. The work thus approaches light pollution as a transformation of the insects’ visual world.",
"angcartel": "**Deilephila elpenor** is a hawk moth that feeds on the nectar of night-blooming flowers. Distinguishing a flower from its surroundings is therefore a vital task. Its vision is sensitive to green, blue and ultraviolet, and is adapted to the low light levels of twilight.\r\n\r\nThe Blue Hour plays with the spectrum of light to translate this animal vision into colours perceptible to the human eye. The installation alternates between two states: under light representing natural twilight, the plants appear brown and the flowers brightly coloured; under light simulating LED street lighting, these colour contrasts almost completely collapse, making the garden appear nearly monochrome.\r\n\r\nThe work thus shows how light pollution can profoundly transform the visual world of nocturnal pollinators.",
